Alberto Repossi who lived the trial on Diana’s death, his the ring that Dodi chose for Lady D, speaks with the Courier service: “The prince has resources to get by”
Alberto Repossi has entered the history of Diana, and of the Windsors. The jeweler testified at Lady D’s demise trial, for the “engagement” ring Dodi bought before the tragedy in 1997. As the spotlight turns on another Royal case, he speaks to the Courier service.
What do you remember, Dr. Repossi, of that judicial process?
“From the Windsor family, no pressure. True to the motto never explain, never complain. Never explain, never complain. But the establishment around the company worked hard to monitor that everything in the hearing proceeded on safe tracks ». Diana, and now Andrea. With the queen who left him to his fate. What do you think?
«A choice of wisdom that of the sovereign who distances herself from her son, after all the prince has resources, certainly not just the chalet in Switzerland, with which to settle the accounts of the trial. Of course, the story reveals a somewhat “medieval” attitude in the management of power. I mean, for centuries they did what they wanted but with the new means of communication they had to change ”.
The trial at the Royal Courts of Justice, and first the meeting with Dodi and Diana in St Tropez. What was Lady D like?
“Diana was courteous, polite when I saw her on the French Riviera, but my emotion was such that I felt petrified. At trial I was pressed, questioned three times by Scotland Yard – my wife Gio and I. And the chief detective who suggested me to change my version, to remember better … ».
«From the family, never. Even when two years after Diana’s death I saw Prince Charles: impeccable, lovable. But the courtiers monitored. And I don’t forget that interview that asked me for a TV … it didn’t go on air. They rattled it off at my interrogation. “
Have you ever seen Mohammed Al Fayed again? Dodi’s father?
“At the Ritz months ago, he had lunch with his wife. I complimented the refurbished hotel and told me how much it had cost him! But he is tired, for the lion that he was ».
Al Fayed blamed the Windsors. And she?
“I save the Queen and the Royal Family for the credit they have acquired over the centuries. From working for the fortunes of Great Britain to the role of bulwark of democracy that the Windsors played in the Second World War. Without the British it would have been another story. But today I expect another opening from a prince, I think of Albert of Monaco who was not afraid to publicly recognize his children out of wedlock ».
Diana’s place was taken by Kate and Meghan, which side are you on?
“Kate is perfect, tailored for the Windsors. Meghan fled, it would have been braver to fight from the inside. I appreciated William and Harry’s effort to make a common front, with different opinions, for the memory of their mother, for the first statue dedicated to Diana ».
